Silent break ups

Have you ever wished at certain times you could go back to those kindergarten days and just say to whoever it was then, "I don't want to friend you anymore."

But we never say that anymore. We just don't say anything. We just tend to drift apart naturally and the only time you ever hear from either party is when someone wants something or another.

With lovers, you break up. With friends, you just let it be. You're still friends. You just don't talk to each other, don't call each other, have no clue what's going on in each other's lives. In some ways, it is a break up. Only, it's an unspoken one.

It happens.

And i let it happen.

I guess it's in my nature to run rather than confront.

Even if i do cherish that friendship, if the other party doesn't, i'm not going to go calling each and every day. I don't like cling-ons, so i'm not about to impose and be one myself.

So we drift apart.

Eventually, one day we might come together again. But like past lovers, the feeling will be one of awkwardness. We may not be as close. We may be superficial even. If we're lucky, we might rekindle the friendship again. And become even closer than before.

If we're lucky.

If not, we move on. We make new friends. Not knowing if they're going to last a lifetime or not.

But we make them anyway because you learn that all you have to live for is today.
